Six green sea turtles will return back to their natural habitat following several months of rehabilitation at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah on November 25.

The private release, which will take place at noon on Madinat Jumeirah’s Beach in front of an audience of guests, competition winners and 40 children from the Zayed Foundation for Humanitarian Care, forms part of Jumeirah’s programme to mark the UAE's 40th National Day celebrations on December 2.

The largest of the turtles, weighing 40kgs, will be fitted with a satellite tag which will monitor the movement of the turtle for up to two years.

Members of the public will be able to follow the turtle's journey online from a public forum which will be made available following the release.

The Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), based at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah since 2004, runs in conjunction with Dubai's Wildlife Protection Office.

This year over 350 sick or injured sea turtles have been treated by the DTRP's team of marine biologists after washing up on the region’s beaches.
